If you’re unsure which type of scissor lift to use, Here’s providing information about the benefits and differences between a stationary scissor lift and a mobile scissor lift to help you make an informed decision.
We use scissor platform lifts to move personnel or equipment to a greater height that is otherwise inaccessible. The lifts use hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical power to move the scissor up and down. It results in the vertical upwards and downward movement of the platform table. These lifts can handle any operation that would typically bear a ladder or scaffolding.
We mainly offer scissor platform lifts in two variations: the mobile ones allow us to move the lift from one place to another, while the stationary platform lift stays stationed at one place or pits in the ground.
You might think that the mobile one could move around and be used for multiple operations, but that’s not always the case. Keep reading to figure out the difference between both the lifts and the right application for the same.
Stationary Scissor Lift / Pit Mounted Scissor Lift:
We place a stationary lift, as the name suggests, on ground level or pit it on the workshop floor. It does not move. The biggest advantage here is that it offers stability since it has enough base support.
For a Pit Mounted Scissor lift, we can completely hide it when it is not in use. The platform surface is the same as the floor level. Along with stability, these lifts require negligible maintenance and have a longer service life.
The cost of a portable platform lift is slightly higher than a mobile lift owing to the complexity of its structure. We most often use our lifting tables and jacks to compensate for vertical differences in production, logistics, and handling operations. It is ideal for an assembly line and production line applications such as a lifting table.
At Aakash Engineers, we can customize our lifting tables and jacks to meet the weight-bearing capacity requirements of the equipment. It is possible to add various features like barriers, substitute control systems, loading flaps, etc to enhance the functionality of the lift.
Mobile Scissor Lift
We mount a mobile scissor platform lift on a base connected to heavy-duty industrial casters for stability and support for heavy loads. Typically we use two fixed casters and two swivel casters with brakes. We use caster wheels to ensure the stability and smooth movement of the lift.
Although it gives you the flexibility to move the lift table from one place to another, the limitation is its load-bearing capacity. Owing to the structure of the lift, it can take a maximum of 500kgs weight.
There is a limitation with the working height as well. A mobile lifting platform over 6 meters even with safety barriers can be hazardous to use.
A mobile scissor platform lift can effectively serve large-scale operations, such as warehouses, airport terminals, shopping malls, residential places, mines, and factories, when the weight-bearing capacity and lifting height are limited.
It can handle these types of operations effectively.
Some of the factors to be considered before making your final choice:
Workability of your Assembly line:
If you expect moving components between your working station, or you frequently update the line, Mobile lift tables will be a good choice. They are powered by hydraulics or electricity for safe and smooth movement.
They come in a large variety of lifting capacities and working heights. Portable scissor lifting equipment allows flexibility in terms of movement across the floor but stationary lifts can also be quite flexible. You can reposition the load via forklift to accommodate changes in the assembly line.
Proximity to Floor:
The mobile lifting platform stands on heavy-duty caster wheels. They cannot go as close to the floor as in the case of stationary lifting platforms. We can attach ramps to both stationary and mobile lifts to allow users to transfer loads onto the lifts. But if floor access is a priority, a stationary scissor lift will be an ideal choice.
Nature of load to be carried:
This is a major factor to be considered while selecting the lift. Mobile scissor lifting table stands on caster wheels. If we need to lift a load higher than 500 kgs, stability becomes a major concern.
Based on our experience, we believe that a stationary lifting scissor platform offers better stability when it is mounted in a pit. It can carry a load of up to 5000 kg. Potentially even more depending on the working height and structure of the lift.
